Trendspotting for Spring/Summer 2012
Summer is, well, sort of here. Some trends to look out for are:
Colour: the great thing about spring and summer is all of the colour. There is the colour of the grass, the colour of the sky, flowers, lakes and birds. And we musn’t forget all of the colour of the fashion! From bright purples to yellows, reds, blues and greens- spring and summer are the seasons of colour.
Fabrics: when the weather is nice one wants to wear clothes in which they can breath. Loose fitting cuts and soft fabrics are the way to go. Light cottons, smooth silks and comfortable linens are always a good way to go. If you are going to wear a thicker, heartier material like denim, make sure that it is loose fitting.
Details: what you loose in shape you can make up for in details. Beading, embroidery, patterns and stitches are all wonderful touches on a summer look. For him it might be argyle or checks, for her it might be texture and shine.
Shape: Shape doesn’t mean that it has to be tight. With lots of light fabric it is possible to take advantage of geometrical shapes. Think about the sun, the clouds and the ocean- they have waves, breaks and texture. Choose fashionable items that have the same.
The curated wardrobe: less is more. Instead of striving to have a huge wardrobe filled with a million looks, pick and choose your favourite items and find new ways of wearing them. It’s easier to live with less and to make sense of it all than it is to organise a closet ready to burst.
Romanticism:
Summer is the season of love. It is the season of fantasy, where anything is possible and you’re always wearing something fabulous when it does. Think about flowing skirts, lace, whites, flowers, velvets and elegant designs.
In case of rain:
Ever heard the expression spring showers spring May flowers? Well there’s a reason for it. Springs and even summers can be unpredictable when it comes to the weather. It’s always best to be prepared for the rain. Carrying an umbrella is one way to do it, having a super stylish rain coat is another. Camel coloured trenches are popular for both men and women, or you could opt for something a bit more childish and fun. Solid coloured plastics are a good choice. Of course, you’ll need a chic pair of wellies to go with the look.
You can never be too prepared for what’s to dawn in the world of fashion. Magazines, websites, and fashion shows are a good place to get inspiration and ideas.
